Labor Day: What it Means

Labor Day

Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

Unofficial end of summer

Labor Day is called the “unofficial end of summer” because it marks the end of the cultural summer season (summer officially ends at the September Equinox anytime from September 21 to 24). Many take their two-week vacations during the two weeks ending Labor Day Weekend. Many fall activities, such as school and sports, begin about this time.
